KEVIN J. WALSH, CPA

 

Kevin is a third generation Alaskan with roots leading from Ireland to the gold fields of Nome. He grew up in Nome and Kotzebue where he developed his interest in business working in the family store. He attended the Honors Program at Seattle University and later graduated from the University of Alaska with a degree in Finance and a degree in Accounting. Kevin joined the firm shortly after graduation and became a principal of the firm in 1980.

His special interest is advising the owners of closely-held businesses. This interest has led to experience and expertise in income and estate taxation as well as business valuation. Staying current in these areas has Kevin traveling to national conferences as well as the Tax Institutes of New York University and Chaminade University.

Relevant experience within our client base includes involvement in tax planning and business valuations related to business operations, acquisitions, dispositions, mergers, redemptions and liquidations as well as estate and gift planning and compliance.

He has been retained by a number of law firms and the Attorney General's office to provide expert witness testimony and assistance in litigation regarding taxation, accounting and valuation related aspects of issues such as divorce, damage suits, eminent domain and business acquisitions/reorganizations.

Kevin is the first CPA in Alaska to pass all the examinations required to receive the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning and Advising for Closely-Held Businesses awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Kevin was also the first CPA in Alaska to have passed all the examinations required to receive the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Business Valuation awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He has been retained by publisher Harcourt Brace as a technical reviewer of Robert Jamison's "S Corporation Tax Guide".

Kevin is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and is also a member of the Institute's Federal Tax, Information Technology and Management Consulting Divisions. Other professional memberships include the National Association of Certified Valuation Analysts and the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants where he has served as an officer and board member of the Society for a number of years. He has been on the Tax Committee of the Society for almost 20 years and has served as Chairman.

Community organizations frequently have Kevin as a guest speaker on tax matters. He has taught at seminars and classes sponsored by the University of Alaska, the University of Alaska Foundation, The Small Business Administration, Small Business Development Center and Rural Alaska Entrepreneurship Institute. He is also a member of the Fairbanks Estate Planning Council and has served two terms as President. He has also served as a Commissioner of the University Fire District.

Kevin and his wife, Linda, have solved their estate problems by having five sons: Sean, Cory, Ryan, Eric, and Tristan. If they continue at the present rate, the boys will consume all tangible net worth by the time they are grown.


 

MICHAEL M. KELLIHER, CPA

Mike was born and raised in Nome, Alaska, where his father and grandfather mined for many years. He graduated from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, in 1975 with a bachelors degree in Business Administration with degrees in Finance and Accounting. While in school, he was president of Omicron Delta Epsilon, an economics honor society. Mike joined the firm in 1977, received his CPA certificate and became a principal in 1980, and is the managing partner. Mike is principal-in-charge of general ledger accounting with extensive experience in set-up and management of accounting systems. He is also principal-in-charge of audits and reviews of financial statements. His special interest in construction stems from his experience as an engineer and surveyor for the Department of Highways and for the Transalaska Pipeline Project.

His expertise in accounting has led to his appointment and service as a special master to Superior Court on accounting matters. Professional service groups, such as engineers and medical practices, seek out Mike for his expertise in these areas.

Mike completed examinations required to receive the Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning and Advising for Closely-Held Businesses awarded by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mike is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants, the University of Alaska Alumni Association, Sunrisers Rotary Club, Associated General Contractors, and the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce.

Mike and his wife, Judy, have one son, Connor. They share a special interest in Alaskan Art.


 

THERESE T. SHARP, CPA

Therese was born in Bordeaux, France.  She came to the United States when she was three years old and because of her Dad being in the Air Force was fortunate to have lived in a variety of places including Massachusetts, Florida, Texas, California, Taipet, Taiwan and the best for last Alaska.

Therese attended San Antonio College, North Texas State and completed her education with a BBA with a major in Accounting from the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 1981. She has maintained close ties with her alma mater through involvement in the Alumni Association, serving as President in 1991.

Before coming to the firm, Therese worked as an internal auditor for Alyeska Pipeline for a number of years.

Therese has been with the firm since 1980, when she was employed as a summer intern. She came back to the firm after graduation in 1981. She became a Certified Public Accountant in 1983. Therese became a principal of the firm in 1991.

Her relevant experience within client base includes construction, professional services, estate planning, gift tax, and small businesses.

Therese is a member of the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants, American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and the Taxation, Management Consulting and Information Technology Division of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.  Therese has passed all examinations for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Certificate of Educational Achievement in Tax Planning. Therese is also past Chairman and current member of the Board and member of the Fairbanks Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Downtown Rotary, University of Alaska Fairbanks Board of Visitors,  Chairman of the board for the Downtown Association Fairbanks, member of the IRS-Practitioner Liaison Committee,  past member of the Carlson Activity Center Advisory Board, and Fairbanks Estate Planning Council where she has served as President.

Therese and her husband, Tim, have two very active children, Meagan and Michael.


 

LEE BRADISH, CPA

Lee attended the University of Alaska - Fairbanks, graduating with a BA in Business Administration in 1981. He obtained his CPA certificate in 1983.

Lee joined the firm as Firm Administrator in December 1994, bringing with him 10 years of experience as a controller. Along with these duties, Lee supervises the firm's accounting service department and administrative support staff and works primarily on audits and reviews of corporations and financial statements.

Lee is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Alaska Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Lee and his wife and hockey mom, Corrine, have two sons, Jonathan and Derek.
